A Bitter Assessment

Mission: Episode 12 - When The Bough Breaks
Location: Promenade, Vidal Fleet Yards
Timeline: Day 2 at 1259
1252 words - 2.5 OF Standard Post Measure

The laceration on Jhelana's forehead had started to heal slowly, but that wasn't the harshest part of reality at the moment. Half the station was burning and she knew it. Only pockets of the station maintained life support from what she had understood and communications had been cut off.

For the time being they had set up a triage center in the middle of the Promenade where life support was still somewhat functional. She stood at one of the shattered tables with her hands on her hips. "Tell it to me straight please?" She asked.

Zekur sighed heavily, "Everything below deck two hundred and fifty is most likely gone. And, damage control teams have fires across multiple decks as well. Casualties continue to pour in from all across the station as well, and we have no communications.

"I would predict that we have less than six hours of breathable oxygen at the rate we are going, but I really want to focus on one problem at a time. There are two massive hull breaches from deck one hundred and sixty down to one hundred and eighty five." Zekur told her.

Kara sighed heavily because she didn't want to think about that. "We weren't very far along with the station evacuation when it hit. I don't know how many civilians are still aboard. And, I understand that the escape pods were fused in place?"

"Correct." Zekur answered her.

For the time being Sadie had been placed in charge of the triage center that had been put together. "I have teams on their way up to the infirmary in order to see whatever supplies they can find. When we took all those hits a lot of resources were damaged or destroyed."

Zekur sighed heavily, "As long as they can get up to the upper decks. We are cut off in multiple places."

"One problem at a time," Jhelana finally told him as she looked over his shoulder at the PADD that was in front of them. It contained all the decks and they had been marking what was damaged and what wasn't. "Do we know where we even are?"

"No," Kara answered her. "Right now I'm just thankful that my son was on the first evacuation shuttles with Tolam." She said, "And, he wanted me to go with him, but I chose to stay up on the station to help out with the evacuation."

Sadie gently patted her friend on the shoulder, "Don't beat yourself up over it. Your son is safe and so is your fiancé that's what really matters."

Adriana felt like she was in a daze as she stumbled into the promenade carrying her baby sister in her arms. The little girl was making various cooing noises as she was being carried. Adriana had checked the girl over to make sure she was uninjured and thankfully found out that she wasn't hurt at all.

She saw the group of officers and could hear the noises coming from ahead. That clued her in that people were at least there, but she didn't know that a triage had been arranged.

Adriana stepped closer to them before coming to a stop, "Can someone help me out please?" She asked.

Kara saw the teenager carrying the infant child and immediately rushed over to take Lauren out of Adriana's arms. "Come over here," She said to the others.

Sadie left the table and placed her hands underneath the young girl's arms and helped lead her to a chair that was undamaged. "You didn't evacuate with your sister?" She asked as she began to use the medical tricorder to scan the girl.

Kara gently laid Lauren on a small cot that had been set up and that was empty otherwise. She tucked the girl with blankets so that she wouldn't be at risk of falling off. "There we go." She said and sat with the girl for a little bit and gently hummed.

Adriana watched as she shook her head, "I couldn't get out of the quarters before the station was hit. I just took Lauren and headed down because going up seemed to be suicide. The emergency stairs were warm at the higher levels so it was best to come down."

Jhelana nodded as she looked at Sadie, "Is she injured?"

Sadie shook her head, "A minor laceration and possibly a concussion." She grabbed the medical kit and treated the girl for the concussion before using a dermal re-generator on the head wound. "How's that?"

Adriana nodded slowly as she noticed others were around them. "How many didn't get off the station?" She asked and wondered where her parents were, "Where's my Mom and Dad?"

Zekur was still trying to determine the best course of action when the question had been raised, "Your Mom was in Main Operations the last we knew and your Dad was on the USS Dunkirk. We haven't seen either of them yet," He told her.

Adriana had a look of dread on her face, "Has anyone been able to get to Main Operations?" She asked.

Sadie shook her head, "We've not tracked that far just yet Adri," She told the girl. "There are a lot of injured people and everyone is trying to make the best of the situation."

Adriana was steadily feeling better, "If you don't mind I would like to stay here and help out as much as possible. My Dad has taught me quite a bit about medicine and how to do several basic treatments."

Sadie smiled, "That would be great," She told the girl. "We will try to locate your Mom as soon as we are able." The truth was Sadie knew they were licking their wounds in the situation. So few details had been given too and the lights were still flickering.

Emergency lighting as far as Sadie knew was all they had and the little bit of life support that was available. Otherwise the promenade was filled with frightened people just trying to make it through the next hour.

Jhelana returned to the table and stood with Zekur, "We really do need to try and get to main operations. We need to make sure that the Captain is alive otherwise we need to determine next in the chain of command."

Zekur shook his head, "We don't have the personnel right now. As soon as the team returns from the infirmary with the supplies we need then maybe we can get to them."

Kara was tending to Lauren, "Do we know anything else of the damage to the station?" She asked.

Zekur shook his head, "Not really," He answered her, "I've got damage control teams trying to find a way to get below deck two hundred, but all the passageways seem to be blocked off by various obstacles."

Adriana stood up steadily and walked over to the others, "How many were even left on the station when it got hit?" She asked.

Zekur shrugged, "I don't have an exact number. Shuttles were being launched and we were preparing to launch runabouts when we lost power. The escape pods went out next and then we ended up going through an anomaly of some kind."

Jhelana had to admit that this was quite the mess to be in, "Well, there were starships in the system. Hopefully they will be near us, but in the meantime we will just have to make due with what we've got." She scratched the back of her head, "So let's get to work..."
