Mission: Episode 12 - When The Bough Breaks
Location: Starfleet Medical Center, Javelin City
Timeline: Day 2 at 1500
1015 words - 2 OF Standard Post Measure

Suzanne was sitting in her office when the alarms started sounding down the corridors of the hospital alerting them to a crisis that had developed. She perked up and looked out into the passageway only to see her doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel sprinting towards the triage areas. That was when she heard the computer voice and it was terrifying.

=/=General Alert, Starbase eight-one-two has been struck with a particle beam and reports of an explosion on the planet. Dust clouds have arisen. Planetary officials are concerned of level six tsunami events along the coast of Javelin City. All medical personnel to stations this is not a drill...=/=

Ellie had been working on reports in her office when the klaxons went off. Without a moment's hesitation, she saved the work she'd done so far and headed for the door. When the announcement came, she blanched and sprinted for her triage post as fast as she could without running into any of her colleagues. While she was doing what she needed to do duty-wise, her mind could only think of one thing. 'Where is Thea now? Is she safe?'

Kendrick had been busily trying to treat another patient when the alert went off and he immediately looked at Commander Laras, "What is going on now?" He asked rhetorically before finishing the treatment of his patient and heading towards the emergency services wing.

"I don't know," Laras offered unable to discern that the question did not require an answer. She followed behind the Medical Officer towards the area of the crisis.

Suzanne could hear the alarm as it repeated itself more than one time causing some panic in the medical center. She managed to find Doctor Delaney, "Have you any idea what's going on?" She asked.

"Not a clue," Ellie said to Suzanne. "Aside from what the announcement is saying, no other information has come forward. We're working blind, for now," she added.

Suzanne understood that and wasn't about to argue with it. She simply decided that it was time to get to work as additional medical personnel arrived in the area. "We have to setup a triage in the hospital. Until we know more we have to anticipate casualties to begin pouring in.

"The first part of that is to arrange for any available medical staff to be ready to begin receiving them. And, for everyone to remember their trauma and triage training from the Academy." Suzanne explained.

Kendrick swallowed hard knowing that he was still fresh from the Academy, having only graduated a few months earlier. Now he was being thrust into a situation that put that training to use. "Understood sir," He stated.

Laras had already gone off to begin working on issuing orders to the nurses in the hospital. And, any other member of Starfleet medical that was available to them at the time. "I will see what information I can gather," She called out as she headed away.

Suzanne watched as the two of them got to work, "The operating rooms should be ready for any severe injuries as well," She explained to a nearby Petty Officer. "Go see to it."

"Yes Doctor," The young woman replied and headed out.

Suzanne looked at Elly, "The last I knew Doctor O'Malley was aboard the USS Dunkirk. That means you're in charge down here."

"Oh boy," Elly said softly as she watched the others get to work. "Alright. Prep as much as you possibly can. We don't know what we're looking at so make sure proper protective gear is ready in case it's needed. I know I'm new here, so I appreciate any assistance you can give me. I don't know the lay of the land as well as you do."

Suzanne understood the need to do such thing and had already started working on how to quickly and efficiently get the gear to everyone in the hospital. That quickly had become the least of their worries though when someone came stumbling into the medical center.

Suzanne turned and looked at the civilian who was stumbling around with injuries to his face and neck. This would be circumstances that would lead her to believe that this man was to be the first casualty to walk in. However, something told her otherwise.

The man looked at the doctors and started pointing out the door as he walked up to them, "They're everywhere..." He said and stumbled around before falling down to the floor.

Laras stepped forward and immediately began to check the man for other injuries, "He's severely injured Doctor Belmont we're going to need the auto-suture quickly."

Kendrick could see that the man was bleeding as blue blood started to pour out of him and puddle beneath him. The Bolian wouldn't last very long from what he could tell, "It's too late Nurse Laras," He said.

No sooner had the words left Kendrick's lips the life readings on the tricorder in his hand indicated that he was correct. "What did he mean by what he said though?" He asked.

Laras got up and went to go look out the door and immediately realized just what he was talking about. "That," She said and pointed.

Suzanne looked outside and immediately saw the number of Ortani outside making their way to the capital. They were tiny from where she was standing, but she could see them. "We need to get security here and we need to prepare for casualties..."

Laras nodded slowly, "That's an understatement."

Kendrick had already started towards where they were going to be setting up the triage, "Understood." He said as he got further and further away from them. He'd seen death before because that was part of the medical field sometimes... But, this situation was a first for him.

Suzanne watched the young Doctor walk away and realized that he may not be prepared for what was to come. In fact Suzanne wasn't entirely convinced that she was prepared for what was to come either. However, there was only one way to find out...
