Career Moves

Mission: Episode 9 - Deception
Location: Emergency Room, Javelin City Medical Center
Timeline: Day 3 at 1100
1347 words - 2.7 OF Standard Post Measure

Suzanne came to realize that sometimes she would fight and argue with Tagorn and he would never understood her, nor why she was upset with him. She stepped out into the small office where the patient files were located and started to read through the first one she pulled out. Suzanne had better things to do with her time than to spend it in the Emergency Room.

But, attending to patients who were in need seemed to be the only way to get her to calm down. Today had been a long drawn day in her office with multiple reviews that needed to be taken care of. There were also several new medical officers that needed to be shown around the campus.

Suzanne enjoyed her position because it allowed her to delegate that responsibility onto others. Her mind was elsewhere anyway... Primarily on the fight from the day before and the realization that she was skipping lunch today. The patient in her hand had twisted her foot while playing at the local playground with her children.

Sadie came out of the nearby examination room and dropped her shoulders, "Well this could be so much better today," She said. Sadie had poked her head into the lobby and saw the sheer number of people who were out there. "Next time I volunteer on my down time someone please get me with a phaser or something?"

Suzanne looked up when she heard Sadie and tried her best to grin, "It could always be worse you know?" She asked in a joking manner as she continued to review the medical file in her hand. "You could be dealing with your father, an ex-boyfriend, or someone else that's just as annoying?"

Sadie laughed, "Our illustrious Vice Admiral hasn't attempted to contact or say anything to me since last month when he was told not to. Kara really did a number on him and it's great." She said after her laughter had died down.

"What do you mean ex-boyfriend?" Sadie asked her friend.

Suzanne shrugged, "Lieutenant Commander Sinjohl from yesterday," She said quietly as she tried to figure out the best remedy for a twisted ankle. If she had slept decently the night before it probably wouldn't have taken her so long to figure out.

"I don't even recall why we were arguing in the first place, but I had gone over there with friends to see if he wanted some lunch." She shrugged her shoulders as she thought about it. Suzanne even briefly cringed as the memory of the latest disagreement came to mind.

"Something about avoiding each other?" Suzanne asked herself and shrugged once again, "I don't remember exactly what the problem was but he was in a very foul mood to say in the least."

Sadie groaned, "I had noticed that he seemed to be in a pretty bad mood lately myself actually. But, to be fair they've been working the engineers on the station nearly to death with all the vessels that are in dock." She walked over and hugged her friend.

"Whatever happened between the two of you anyway?" Sadie asked suddenly, "That's if you want to talk about it of course," Sadie said almost as quickly as she'd asked the question.

Suzanne really didn't feel like talking about it, but it wasn't like she could focus on the file in her hand and placed it down onto the table. They were alone because the other medical personnel were off taking care of other patients. "Well," She started to say while tapping her chin.

"We were dating all through our Academy days and he just wasn't a very nice person towards me," Suzanne admitted. "He would get so moody because of his class work load and other problems that eventually it became too much. I didn't expect to really ever see him again.

"Then, we ended up assigned to the USS Onnar together before being assigned here together," Suzanne stated, "The truth of the matter is that I've been considering a transfer." Suzanne told her friend quietly. "I've been thinking about it for about a month now."

Sadie was a bit taken off guard by that comment, "Well what brought that on?"

Suzanne shrugged, "I don't know if it's just that I'm tired of this place or what it is. But, I've been thinking about a transfer for quite sometime I guess... And, part of it has to be the fact that Tagorn is such a prude sometimes that it's utterly ridiculous.

"It's always something with him because apparently I cannot have a life of my own. I'm afraid to even start dating anyone because he's here and seems to be thinking we'll get back together or something." Suzanne admitted quietly as she started to load a hypo with medication.

"Do you understand what I mean?" Suzanne asked.

Sadie thought about it and realized just how much of a friend Suzanne had become in the past few months. The two of them had spent a great deal of time together. "Don't you like it here?" She asked in response.

Suzanne had expected that sort of question because if the shoe was on the other foot she'd have asked the same question. It was something that she considered for sometime if she were to be honest with herself. Suzanne wanted to talk to Doctor O'Malley about it since she'd worked under him for a long time.

"Well," She shrugged, "I do most days and the other days it's simply okay." Suzanne admitted. "I also have other news that I haven't told anyone just yet."

Sadie raised her brow, "Okay and what's that?" She asked.

Suzanne grinned, "I was offered Executive Officer aboard the USS Pasteur," She said and offered the PADD to Sadie. "I haven't really taken much time to consider a command of my own. I'm perfectly content being a medical officer for the rest of my career.

"But, I also really want something more than this," She said and then looked out into the hallway. "I've long thought about my life here and how I've done so much to help others. This place was meant to be where I would eventually retire.

"Then the Captain of the Pasteur came along and asked me if I wanted that position," She said with a smile.

Sadie listened to her friend speak as she read through the offer. "You'd be trading teal for red," She said as she handed the PADD back to Suzanne. "It would be a huge change, but I have faith in your abilities to continue to grow in your career.

"My big concern is that you would be more focused on the command side of things than actually helping treat patients. It's really all about what you see as opportunities ahead." Sadie stated, "Also you'd have to take the Command Officer examination and course." Sadie told her.

"I know," Suzanne sighed, "I have made a lot of friends here as well. I've known the Onnar crew for a while and the people who are assigned here have been my friends for a long time. I just don't know if this is the correct career move yet or not."

Sadie hugged her friend, "I would talk to Kara and Doctor O'Malley and see what they think. If you go to them as a friend they will hear you out and help you make that decision." She told her friend.

Suzanne smiled warmly, "I know," She said once more. Suzanne knew that her friends would all support her career decisions because that's what friends did for each other. Right now she wondered if she was truly ready for such a huge step in her career. She'd only been a department head for a short time, but had worked under Stephen for a while.

"I'll figure it out," Suzanne said with a reassuring nod before she picked up the medical file and the hypo off the desk. "I need to go treat that patient now," She said with a smile and gave another hug before leaving the room.
