It had taken Arika some time to get to the family quarters, get the communicator, and sneak back out without being caught. She knew that her mother was in the other room and so had to explain on her way out that her friends and her were just coming in for something quick.

They had beamed back down to the planet with an assortment of picnic items that she'd replicated from the promenade. And, all of that had taken about an hour to complete. Once Arika had gotten everything arranged it was nearing noon from what she could tell by looking at the twin suns.

The six-year-old girl was, by now, just finishing up her second peanut butter and jelly sandwich when she looked at the edge of the grassy knoll where they were located. "So there's supposed to be ruins somewhere close by," She told Leah and Olivia at the same time.

Leah looked over the side of the blanket they were using while tracing the grass with her eyes. "Is the ruin underground or something?" Leah was honestly pretty nervous about being away from the station and from town. This was probably because the last time she'd snuck out it had resulted in her getting into a dangerous situation.

"Are you both sure this is okay?" She'd asked finally.

Olivia grinned, "Don't worry, what's the worst that could happen? Besides we've got a communicator with us so if anything crazy happens we can immediately call for help. It's really not a big deal." She said and waved her hand.

Leah nodded, took a deep breath, and exhaled. "Okay," She said and finished off the last of her sandwich before standing up. "Well, I guess if the two of you want to go over and see what's over down near the ruins?" She asked the two of them.

Leah stretched and started to walk over towards it, "It can't be too terribly far can it?" She asked them both while looking over her shoulder.

"Wait a moment," Arika said as she stood up, "We probably should stuff the picnic cloth into the basket first," She said to Leah.

Leah snapped her fingers and started to walk back towards them, "You're right," She said with a sheepish grin on her face. Leah started to pick up the blanket and folded one end of it towards where Arika was standing.

Olivia had gotten herself and the basket off the blanket before the other two started to fold it up. "Do you have the communicator in your pocket?" She asked her friend.

Arika nodded, "Of course I do," She said with a big smile on her face.

Leah felt a little bit better about that, "Well, if something does happen," She was speaking while she finished fold up the picnic blanket. "Then at least we have some way to let someone know." She took a deep breath and let it out again.

"I'm sorry if I seem nervous it's just... After the last time you know," Leah told them quietly.

Olivia wrapped Leah up in a hug, "It was my fault remember?" Olivia asked rhetorically and rather calmly afterwards. She released the other girl, "Don't worry nothing bad is going to happen this time."

Leah grinned, "Okay," She agreed while putting the picnic blanket away in the basket and looked at the other two before picking it up. "Come on," She said and led the way down the hill. She could see the ruins in the distance, and Leah was excited about that. "Just a bit further."

Arika was trailing just behind the other two girls and trying to watch where she was going as she went down the hill. Soon it had flattened out and the ruin was just a few meters ahead of them if that. "We're getting really close can we take a break please?" She asked and rubbed the back of her legs.

"Sure," Olivia responded, "Hey Leah..." She called in front of her, "Let's take a break." She said.

Leah had turned and was walking backwards, "A break?" But, as the last few words escaped her lips Leah had slipped unaware that just behind her was a crevice that separated in the ground. She screamed as she went down into the hole.

Olivia's eyes immediately went wide and she ran forward to where Leah had tumbled, "Leah?!" She shouted into the hole wondering if the other girl could hear her," She was looking straight down into it, "Leah can you hear me?" She asked.

Olivia could tell that the fall was a steep angle which meant the other girl was probably tumbling. She waited, and never heard a thud, but could hear the sound of running water from inside of the hole, "Arika... Arika come quick!"

Arika had already started to run as quickly as her little legs would take her, "What happened where is she?" She came to an immediate halt when she saw the huge hole where Leah had fallen. That answered her question without Olivia having to respond.

Leah was rolling down a very long and steep hill. She had stopped screaming as she was falling, but kept making different groaning noises as she rolled down the hill. Eventually the hill had flattened out and she rolled down into a puddle of water...

Arika had her mouth hanging open, "What should we... Oh," She said immediately snapping out of it and digging around in her pocket until she located the communicator. "Mom is gong to kill us," She said.

Olivia's eyes were wide as she watched into the darkness, "Leah?!" She called again, but there was still nothing coming back up. She couldn't hear the screams anymore so either Leah was too far away or had stopped screaming as she fell.

Olivia looked along the length of the hole, "I wonder how this opened up in the first place?" She asked rhetorically and slightly under her breath, "Do you have the communicator we need to get help."

Arika pressed the communicator, "Arika Washington to station... One of my friends fell into some sort of hole thing... We need help now!" She said loudly into it.

=/\="Just hold on Miss Washington," Came the voice of the Traffic Controller in Operations, "We've got your location please remain where you are at we will send emergency responders."=/\=

Arika took a deep breath, "Okay." She answered and looked at Olivia for a moment. She immediately wrapped her arms around the other girl, "We just got done telling her she was going to be okay..." She repeated that a few times before finally stopping.
