Ivaldi III is the third planet in the Ivaldi System which is a binary star system that contained five planets that orbit twin stars. It is also home to Vidal Fleet Yards. Before the system was discovered by Captain Jodrel Vidal and the starship Eyak it was home to a race known as the Ivaldians. The planet was temporarily in the Vulara System where it was moved through time and space by the Celestians, Fin'ul, and Belphans. Ivaldi III was eventually moved back to the Ivaldi System after the discovery of tampering by the Celestians when they attempted to destroy the planet.
For More... Ivaldi Government
The Ivaldi III government is currently seated in at the capital in Javelin City. Presently there are four other communities on Ivaldi III which each holds a seat on the governing body as Senators. Each city and town has a council and a Senator that is charged with leading their community in a similar role as a town or city mayor. The Senators have voting rights when the governing body is in session and all laws are ratified by the sitting Governor. Senatorial positions and the Governor are elected every two years with a maximum number of terms set at six. The area around the towns and cities are divided into districts to make certain that everyone living on the planet have representation in the government.
- Total Population: ~141,000
- Racial Statistics: Human, Vulcan, Betazoid, Bajoran, Andorian, Cardassian, Trill, Klingon
- Population: ~120,000
- Racial Statistics: Human, Vulcan, Betazoid, Bajoran, Andorian
The capital city of the colony at Ivaldi III. The government seat is to the south of the city and it is built along a nearby ocean. There is a sizable resort for personnel who are visiting the system while their ship is undergoing refit and repair. The city was established in mid-2389 and the current Governor is Wesley Holtz. Just outside of the city is the planetary Starfleet Medical Headquarters which used to be the Starfleet Installation area. The current Medical Director is Doctor Stephen O’Malley.
- Population: ~1,500
- Racial Statistics: Bajoran, Cardassian
A small farming village on one of the smaller continents. The population for Akorem Village is almost predominately Bajoran and Cardassian. The decision for Cardassians wishing to live in the Federation to share a village with their former allies was an easy one. The Cardassians living on Ivaldi III have dual citizenship in both the Cardassian Union and the Federation. They are living on Ivaldi III as a result of the treaty between the Federation and the Cardassian Union. When colonization efforts for Ivaldi III were underway the Cardassian Union made a request with the Federation to have a presence on the planet which was approved.
- Population: ~2,500
- Racial Statistics: Trill, Andorian, Human
A fishing town to the Northwest of Javelin City and located in the bay area of the larger continent on the planet. The population is predominately Trill, Andorian, and Human. Oar’s Rest was established shortly after the capital city and has it’s own city hall and primarily focuses on fishing efforts to help with the food stock of Ivaldi III. The outskirts of Oar’s Rest has two refineries for the dilithium ore that is mined on the planet.
- Population: ~15,000
- Racial Statistics: Human, Vulcan, Bajoran
Some of the highest concentrations of ore deposits are located in the river valley where Barcombe is located. The primary population in this town is Human and Vulcan. There is a small population of Bajorans living on the western side of the town as well. Most of the people living here work as miners and the town is home to a secondary headquarters to Zeno Mining Corporation. Barcombe was established just prior to Javelin City since the settlement took priority. Barcombe is the second largest in population of the entire planet.
- Population: ~3,800
- Racial Statistics: Human, Betazoid, Cardassian, Klingon
A farming and fishing community that was established just prior to Akorem Village making it second to last. There is a large resort near the beach front in Stratham. The population is predominately Human and Betazoid with a small pocket of Cardassians and Klingons who are also dual citizens. Stratham is the location for a Cardassian Embassy and is the third largest in population for the entire planet.
The Northern Wastes see little to no rainfall or snowfall on an annual basis. It is almost entirely a frozen tundra and one of the few deserts on the entire planet. In the winter months temperatures fall to well below negative forty degrees in the northernmost parts of the region. Very few animals live in this region and plants can only be found along the southern edges of the region. The Northern Wastes are largely unexplored otherwise due to the intense temperature differences there. The Northern Wastes do not extend to the furthest point on the entire continent, however, very little is known about that area and rainfall totals reach nearly zero in that area.
Freezing rain and snow are commonplace to the west of the Northern Wastes in an area known as the Ice Plains. Tall ice spires can be found scattered across the hills and plains in the region. Temperatures remain close to freezing based on the location in the region. To the north they can be negative ten degrees and to the south temperatures just barely reach freezing. In the winter months life is almost completely uncommon whereas in the summer months grasses grow in the southern parts of the region. The ice spires in the northern parts of the region remain all year round and have been measured to be fifteen meters in height on average. The largest ice spire to be measured has been over twenty five meters in height. In the southern parts of the region the ice spires melt away and give way to the grassy plains that happen in the summer and spring months.
Rainforests cover the land on the peninsula south of Javelin City and the large island that's off shore in that area. Rainfall totals reach upwards of five to ten meters. Life in this region is quite abundant as well and the region hasn't been fully explored by Starfleet or those living on the planet. Along the southern parts of the island temperatures can get close to freezing in the winter months and as a result is almost all beach front instead of rainforest. Temperatures in the summer months can reach fifty degrees which coincide with the monsoon season in the area. Rivers swell and parts of the rainforest give way to wetlands.
Surrounding Crystal Lake is a large forest that climbs up the Sevas Mountain Range to the east and down into the plains region to the west of the forest. Spruce and fir trees dot the northern portions of the forests while Great Ivaldian Oak Trees dominate much of the forest to the south. The climate is quite temperate at all times of the year. Rainfall totals are relatively average as well only reaching five meters total throughout the year. Many Ivaldian rodents and deer reside in the forest here. The forest is named for Lieutenant Janelle Rilla who was the first from the Eyak crew to chart the region.
Sevas Mountain Range
The Sevas Mountain Range separates the Northern Wastes from the rest of the continent on the planet. The highest peak is 8900 meters in height topping Mount Everest on the planet Earth. The southern part of the mountain range is almost entirely foothills while the western part of the range borders the Rilla Forest. Rainfall totals in the southern part of the mountain range are far higher than those to the north as weather patterns have a difficult time going over the mountain range. The western part of the mountain range gets the most rainfall with an annual amount of four meters total. The range is named for Lieutenant Commander Sevas the Vulcan Chief Science Officer from the USS Eyak.
Morehead Rainforest is located between Rilla Forest and Mulgrew Forest to the west and the east. The temperature in the rainforest rarely drops below thirty degrees and the rainfall in the region is almost daily. It receives the second highest annual rainfall total of the entire planet and has lots of rivers and waterways dotting it. There is a large lake and clearing in the middle of the rainforest with several riverways that extend outward from it. To the north the Sevas Mountain Range extends into part of the forest. Most of the weather systems that extend over the southern part of the mountain range end up pouring rain into the forest. Well over two hundred different species of animals and plant life have been discovered in the rainforest. Geographically speaking it is similar to the Southern Rainforest, however, it is smaller in size.
Mulgrew Forest is to the east of Morehead Rainforest and receives significantly less rainfall than Rilla Forest does. The trees are far smaller than those in Rilla Forest and are almost predominately conifers to the north and various Ivaldian ash trees to the south. Temperatures remain right around thirty degrees in the middle of the forest and to the south. The northern parts of the forest receive snow in the winter months which makes a number of animal life travel into the southern portions to continue to find food. The forest boasts a large number of bird and insect life as well as the Ivaldian bat that resides in the eastern part of the forest. These bats travel to the nearby rainforest in the winter months where they feed on the fruits that ripen at that time of year.
Beyond the Northern Wastes which is a cold desert, Compton Desert is the only known desert on the entire planet. Annual rainfall totals are below one meter throughout the entire year. It is unknown how the desert came to form given the marshlands and hill region to the west and the large plains area to the east of the desert. There are a variety of Ivaldian reptiles that live in the desert along with the Ivaldian scorpion which is one of the most poisonous creatures on the entire planet. Diurnal temperatures fluctuate wildly reaching sixty degrees in the hottest part of the days and falling to twenty degrees in the coldest parts of the night.
The only known coral reefs are those that are known as the Picardo Reef. Hundreds of fish species live in this area where shallow waters are located near the coastline. Nearly the entire coastal region in this area is one large coral shelf that steadily increases in depth the further to the south and west one travels. Ivaldian brain coral, Ivaldian fan reefs, and others dominate the area. Few predatory fish come into the area allowing for a large estuary to exist to the north of the reef. The Ivaldian ocean is the warmest in this area due to a warm current that flows from west to east over the reef covered shelf. It spans more than ten kilometers in length along this area.
The Tekev Marshlands are one large wetland area on the western most part of the continent. Rainfall totals during the monsoon season causes the waterways to swell higher than what they typically sit at causing a massive amount of flooding to occur. In the north the temperatures range from ten degrees to thirty degrees throughout the year while in the south the temperatures remain in the thirty to forty degree range. There are four different species of crocodile that live in the region along with different species of Ivaldian snakes. The oceanic and fresh water mixing to the west of the marshes allows for oceanic creatures to come further inland and hunt fresh water life.

Points of Interest
A coral reef that spans the entire coastal region in its location. There are a wide assortment of tropical fish that live in this region and so far biologists have found over two hundred species of aquatic life living here. There are hundreds of types of coral some of which are similar to those that can be located on the planet Earth. The reef itself spans over ten kilometers in length and extends to the edge before the shelf drop off where the water becomes over two meters in depth. It is the largest coral reef on the entire planet and was discovered by the survey teams prior to the first settlements being constructed. It is protected under the Ivaldian laws that have been passed in recent months.
Named for Lieutenant Commander James Tuerik, the Executive Officer of the USS Eyak, this island was first surveyed by the Eyak crew upon discovery of the system. It is the only location on the planet that has any volcanic activity and boasts six different volcanoes around the entire island. The initial survey teams determined that the island itself is only a hundred years old and even found several different reptilian lifeforms living there. Sentient life is prevented from living on the island due to the amount of volcanoes going off at any given time making it quite inhospitable. Tourists do regularly visit the island when it is safe to do so.
Named for Javelin City this is a popular tourist destination with all sorts of boating and kayaking activities. There are a few small coral reefs in this location as well making it an excellent snorkeling and glass bottom boat area. Over fifty different animals have been found living in this area to date and it is also a fish nursery. The bay itself is protected by rocky outcroppings along the outer perimeter of it making it quite difficult for predatory sea life to get into the bay. Ivaldian Sea Turtles use the beaches to lay and hatch eggs where they are safe from most of their predators and the sea turtles spend much of their young life in the bay area.
Stratham Beach Resort
Another popular tourist destination and the only beach resort on the entire planet. It has a wide array of different shoreline activities and is the site where the station Captain got married earlier in the year. A lot of animal life lives off the coastal areas near the resort making it a popular destination for tourists. Scientists have also spent a great deal of time studying the fish and other sea life that reside in the region. Twenty different species of Ivaldian birds have also been cataloged in that region.
One of the largest lakes on the entire planet. There is a reef in the shallows along the southern shoreline from where Eyak river flows into it. It is one of the deepest lakes recorded at just over two meters near it's deepest point. Hundreds of fish and other large sea creatures have been found in the lake itself including a fresh water octopod that was believed to only be capable of living in salt water environments. Further study into this eight legged animal has determined that it may have lived in the seas before evolving after entering the lake itself.
A salt water river that flows backwards into Crystal Lake. The river is named for the USS Eyak. Scientists have found several sea going creatures that swim up the river and into the lake where they spawn in relative safety from predatory fish. The Ivaldian Bear lives along the river where the animal can hunt fish and gather the various berries that grow along the river bed. People are able to use small boating vessels to get from the lake down into the sea area. It is an area where kayaks are able to get from the Javelin Bay up into the lake.
Named for Lieutenant Helen DeSoto the Eyak science officer who discovered them. This waterfall has a deep blue color and is thousands of years old. It is a popular destination for Ivaldi Tours to take their guests. The falls themselves are thousands of years old and fall down into the valleys below the Ivaldian Mountain Range. Paths have been constructed allowing for guests to go to the top of the falls themselves before returning back on the opposite side of the falls. DeSoto Falls are very popular with people who've come to visit the planet itself though there is very little biological life in the area that has so far been discovered.
The northern most bay on the planet. Land animals on the planet and sea life live in this region and it is very similar to some of the northern regions on Earth with the same climate as the southern parts of Alaska. In the summer months the bay area is quite lush and warm with a great many land and sea animals living in the area. During the winter months a large portion of the bay freezes over and migratory birds fly towards Javelin Bay where they continue to hunt fish. These birds use the Northern Bay area to breed along the shores when the fish population is the greatest.
For More... Ivaldian History
Life on Ivaldi III began when the Precursor civilization seeded and populated the planet with the Ortani race. This was around 150,000 years earlier before they were capable of achieving spaceflight. Ivaldi III was known simply as Ortani and was home to the First Ortani Republic and would later be replaced as the Ortani Empire after they expanded into other star systems. Sometime around 85,000 years ago a coalition of Ortani, Belphan, Celestian, and Fin’ul forces rose up and destroyed the Ortani Empire.
The Ivaldian race was born from the ashes of the Ortani Empire with the name of the planet being changed to Ivaldia by the Belphans. The Ivaldian race came into being when much of their history as Ortani was destroyed by coalition forces. Many ruins and other artifacts were destroyed across the planet in order to eliminate all knowledge of the Ortani race. With the Belphan race settling on the moon orbiting Ivaldi IV they were able to keep an eye on the Ivaldians.
Belphans became known to the Ivaldians through first contact once the Ivaldians regained the ability to travel within their own solar system. Since the two species were described at the time as looking somewhat similar the Ivaldians felt that the Belphans were inferior to them and within their archives the Belphans were named as a subspecies of their own. A series of conflicts between the two began to follow throughout the years after that. At the height of these wars the Ivaldians discovered remnants of the Ortani culture and began to worship them as Gods, unaware that they were in fact worshiping themselves.
The Ivaldians were able to greatly advance their technology with the discovery of the Ortani ruins and became a grave threat to the Belphans. The final climax of the war came to a sudden and brutal end when the Belphans unleashed a weapon upon Ivaldia that destroyed the Ivaldians while erasing them from existence. The Belphans were nearly destroyed in the process and those who remained left the system.
By the year 2383 Captain Jodrel Vidal had discovered the Ivaldi Star System for the United Federation of Planets. The system had been known prior, however, no effort had been made to chart it until Captain Vidal of the USS Eyak did so. The ship spent over a month in the system charting both Ivaldi III and the moon orbiting Ivaldi IV. The system was named for a race of beings that had once inhabited the planet. An archive was discovered in what is now believed to be the former capital of the planet, however, much of the historical records have been destroyed.
Starfleet had decided by 2385 to begin construction of Vidal Fleet Yards and to colonize the planet Ivaldi III. Initially plans to colonize the moon were made, but ultimately decided against and by 2389 the planet had been settled by Starfleet and civilians. Javelin City and other towns were established on the planet with a central government in Javelin City which was named the planetary capital.
Vidal Fleet Yards, initially an Immense-class space station, was constructed in orbit of Ivaldi III while Cessna Station was constructed in orbit of Ivaldi II. Towards the end of 2390 after artifacts were discovered from the Ortani a battle ensued in the system. The space station was destroyed and Federation forces fought against the Ortani Emperor who’d been imprisoned by the Council of Ivaldia thousands of years earlier.
For a brief time the planet was moved to the Vulara System in the Delta Quadrant and to the year 2394. When Celestian tampering had been discovered time was reversed and the planet was returned to the Ivaldi System. As of 2391 Ivaldi III remains the home of Vidal Fleet Yards and has once again begun to thrive as a major shipping port as well as fleet yard for the United Federation of Planets.
